Yes, I realize it has been almost 5 months since I’ve posted on this little blog of mine! Yikes, time really does fly by in the blink of an eye. I will admit I was hibernating this winter settling into our new house and making it our home. We had spent so much time visualizing the final product and once we officially moved in our dreams became a reality. I thought we’d start our tour with our modern farmhouse kitchen. It truly has become one of my favorite places to hang out and it is where we spend most of our time.
Every single decision we made during the building process was important to us and now we were able to see if those were good decisions or not. Designing the kitchen was intense. We have 9′ ceilings and knew we wanted the cabinets to go to the ceiling. We went with a shaker style cabinet and we are loving it! The island is 10×4 so just at 40 square feet and we’ve already had some awesome gatherings around this island. Memories are being made with friends and family and it is exactly what I’d hoped for when we designed the kitchen.
I almost purchased these pendant lights but they were a little too small for the look I was going for. Of course, I can’t find the source on where I got our gold pendant lights. I started a spreadsheet of where we purchased everything midway through our build, but these were one of the first purchases so they didn’t make it on my list. Blogger fail..lol!
We decided to go with a grey cabinet and after painting 15 different grey boards and looking at them in every possible light, we landed on Repose Grey by Sherwin Williams. It is on the lighter scale which is exactly what I wanted to complete the modern farmhouse kitchen vibe. It works in all different times of the day and I liked it so much I used it for our living room built-ins, my son’s room, and the playroom.
We went with a modern farmhouse X on the side of the island. It fits so well with the vibe of the house. Our appliances are by Jenn Air. We couldn’t be happier with everything we selected. We also went with a counter depth refrigerator because I wanted a seamless paneled look on our fridge. I wasn’t aware that a regular sized fridge cannot be panel ready and only counter depth refrigerators have that option.
We also decided to go with an island microwave. It was such a good choice! I’m going to do a review just on this microwave so stay tuned. I’ll have to dedicate another post to how we decided to set up the cabinets. We even have beverage drawers in the island and it has been so nice for the kids. It also gives more space in the refrigerator since we did go with a smaller counter depth model.
Which room should I blog about next?! Maybe the laundry room since I put my favorite wallpaper from spoonflower.com! Can’t wait to continue to show you around our house.
