Do you wonder how to decorate your child’s room so it grows as they do?! When I found out I was pregnant with a healthy little girl I was so thankful and my thoughts immediately turned to how I was going to decorate her nursery! I knew I wanted the room to grow with her so I thought about ways to ensure that this decor wasn’t only going to be used as a nursery. With a few intentional purchases and decisions, we easily transitioned her nursery into a big girl room!
1. Purchase items that can have a dual purpose.
One of the most expensive items you will purchase for the nursery is the crib, so why not make sure that the back of the crib can be used for a future headboard! That is exactly what we did with this crib. It is the Heidi Klum crib in the color mist.
When it was time to transition to a big girl bed the headboard worked out perfectly.
Another great idea is to use a dresser as a changing table. No need for an expensive dedicated changing table when the top of a dresser works perfectly! I love this dresser/changing table from The Little Umbrella!
The wallpaper trend is going strong right now and with so many options it is easy to pick something that doesn’t scream baby/nursery. The beautiful watercolor wallpaper we used is from Anthropologie and when we move into our new house I will be picking something similar but will order from Indy Bloom Designs on the Spoonflower site. I love her designs so much!
If you don’t have the courage for wallpaper then these peel and stick gold dots would be perfect for a nursery and later for a big girl!
3. Gallery Wall
A good gallery wall feels timeless and classic! There are so many great inspiration pictures on Instagram and I could scroll through the #gallerywallinspiration hashtag for hours! With all the free printables that can be found on the Internet or low-cost art on Etsy, we can easily change out pictures!
This adorable gallery wall is from HonestlyWTF and it is so perfect!
