Do you love an IKEA hack as much as I do? This IKEA DIY desk hack was so easy and came in at only $40! I was so excited this past spring when the IKEA opened in Indianapolis. We used to drive to Cincinnati or Chicago to go to IKEA so this was a welcomed addition to our city.
We picked up two of these LERBERG Trestle legs for $15 each. If you don’t have an IKEA in your area, don’t worry, they ship!
I bought two 1×8 poplar boards that were 10 feet long and cut them in half to get 4 boards 5 ft long. I used Minwax Jacobean Stain for a rich dark color. We knew our kids would be coloring and drawing on this desk so we didn’t want a light stain that would show crayons or markers.
As for how we put the boards together the picture below shows the underside of the desk. We used 2 boards on each side and one in the middle. This picture shows half of the desk and yes, I did crawl under the desk to get this photo!
This armless desk chair would fit perfect underneath the desk. Our chair is a little too bulky and the arms don’t fit well so I’m looking to change it out soon.
This was such an easy weekend project and the desk has held up so well. I can’t wait to venture into more IKEA hacks! Have you done an easy project to upgrade IKEA furniture?
