Don’t you think decorating and party planning go hand in hand?! I mean, party planning is just decorating with a theme! I really love putting together a fun party and have done many over the years. I will have to write about the beer tasting 30th birthday party I threw for my husband…while I was 35 weeks pregnant. That was one of my favorites, but I was so sad to not be able to partake in the actual point of the party…beer tasting.
When I started planning my son’s 1st birthday I turned to Pinterest for ideas. Ultimately, I decided on the Little Monster theme and I am so happy with how it turned out!
The first thing I do when planning a party is decide where my focal table is going to be. In my house it is our dining room and I usually the long table up against the windows and work on some kind of backdrop.
Quick and easy streamers was the go to for this backdrop and staying with a color palette is the best way to make an impact. My aunt and Nana love to crochet and they took on the project of making little monster favors for party guests. My Nana has since passed away and I love when I see my son’s monster so I can relive some memories of her.
Of course we needed a smash cake for the first birthday and my talented baker friend put together this monster cake!
We also wanted to make the high chair part of the party so created an easy DIY ribbon garland to attach to the tray. We took one long strip of ribbon (the blue one) and hot glued different lengths and patterns to the back of it.
Amazon was the best place to find cheap party decorations as well. Happy party planning!
